Even though it says Dura Ace, the new Di2 components belong on their own shelf. The derailleurs look similar to their 7900 series counterparts, with just a bit of bulk added which houses the motor for each. It's the shifters that separate 7970 from 7900; they have a shape that mixes 7800 and 7900 to create a shape that's incredibly comfortable yet large enough to really wrench on when giving your all. Plus, the shifting stroke is, well, calling it a stroke would be overkill. Each shift simply requires a firm tap on the two-piece lever nested behind the brake lever blades —each "piece" activates either the upshift or the downshift. Since the brake lever is no longer used to move the chain, wrist-tweaking shifts are a thing of the past. Besides the zero-effort shifting and perfectly sculpted lever perches, the biggest benefit of electronic shifting is the elimination of cables and their variable performance. No more deteriorating shift quality due to contamination of your cable housing, no more re-tensioning your cables after the first several hundred miles, just clean, precise, truly effortless shifting every time.
